In this Employee Spotlight, David shares his insight into his time at StarLeaf so far and gives his advice to people who are interviewing with StarLeaf:
How was your first day at StarLeaf?
There was a lot to take in on the infrastructure side. Clive (Junior Software Engineer) kept an eye on me for the first few days and then I gradually moved to work under the guidance of Tim (mentor and Senior Engineer).
Is there anything that has surprised you since working with us?
It all still seems too good to be true!
What are the three main benefits of working for StarLeaf?
• Flexible working hours and being able to work from home.
• Atmosphere, friendliness, asking questions isn't a problem (crucially, it doesn't feel like it's a problem).
• Generous freebies - snacks, kick-off week, R&D meetup, weekly team lunch.
Would you refer a friend to work here? If so, why?
Yes. The company culture at StarLeaf is great, the work is interesting and it feels like employees are treated seriously here.
If you did have a friend interviewing with StarLeaf and could give them one piece of advice, what would it be?
To think of the interview as a discussion rather than a test. Don't be afraid to verbalise what you're thinking. (Probably applies everywhere, but I remember feeling like I had just come out of a tutoring/supervisory session rather than a gruelling interview.)
What aspects of your role are you passionate about and why?
There's lots to learn. I love having the chance to slowly accumulate knowledge and be responsible for specific, specialised parts of the system. It's just generally fun.
